My hidden talent ;)

It started as a simple, "it would be funny to do a music video!" and we went from there. A coworker of mine mentioned that Intemountain Healthcare, the healthcare system we are part of, was holding a competition between other Intermountain facilities. Intermountain has 6 "Healing  Commitments" and the competition was to come up with a video showing how we use those commitments daily at our jobs, so I threw out my idea of making a music video. My coworker thought that was a great idea so we came up with writing our own song with the Healing Commitments integrated into the lyrics and to the tune of "Call Me Maybe".

I was asked if I'd mind writing the lyrics, which I use to write poetry and songs all the time in High School so I figured I'd give it a try. Once the song was written (took me two days with the help of my fellow coworkers) I was asked if I'd mind singing it. Well, I wasn't very comfortable with the idea of me singing it and it being judged, but once again I figured I'd give it a try. I tried recording it myself with Garage Band on my computer but I wasn't happy with it, so I got a hold of an old friend from High School that is kind of a music guru and has his own recording studio. I was a nervous wreck the whole way to his house. I didn't like singing in front of people, which will happen after not getting several roles in musicals and solos in choir as a teen, but I bucked up and gave it my best. I must admit, I felt pretty cool with those big headphones on and a huge microphone in my face.

Success!!! My part was done and now it was up to my coworker to film our department and make it all flow together. She did an excellent job fiming and editing the video. The video doesn't actually have any patients in it, everybody in the video is an employee or student from our department. Everybody pulled together and made the video stunning!!

We found out a month later, after submitting our video, that out of 17 entries our video won! Our department won a catered dinner. Yummay! I must say, we did a dang good job!

It feels great to be a part of something so important in healthcare and to have such awesome coworkers and be part of a team. Being that I was also born 26 years ago at Alta View Hospital and have history here it is in honor be a part of recognition for the hospital.
Here it is!!

I also love this published in Intermountain Stories.

“The creative, talented and genuine manner in which the Alta View

Imaging department portrayed the Healing Commitments in their

winning video was thoughtful, humorous, and extraordinary,” says

Tammy Richards, Intermountain’s operations director for patient

and clinical engagement. “The Healing Commitments represent our

promise to deliver clinically excellent, safe, compassionate patient care

and the staff involved in the development of each of these videos

exemplify our desire to engage our patients as partners in care rather

than just our customers. Bravo!”
